FMS A-10 Thunderbolt II V2: Evolution of a Flagship

In 2017, FMS introduced its flagship aircraft — the A-10 Thunderbolt II. Celebrated for its outstanding scale detail and remarkable performance, the “Warthog” quickly became a firm favourite among both pilots and spectators.

To make an exceptional aircraft even better, FMS has invested significant engineering effort into evolving the original A-10. The result is the A-10 V2, which incorporates thoughtful design and performance enhancements while preserving all the key features that made the first generation a success.

The A-10 V2 retains the user-friendly screw-together airframe, ball-linked control surfaces and high-strength spar system, ensuring straightforward assembly. Scale realism remains a highlight, with features such as panel lines, realistic rivets, removable bombs and rockets, and shock-absorbing CNC-machined landing gear.

Key Upgrades in the A-10 V2

The V2 version introduces ten major improvements in structure, electronics and scale realism:

1. Improved ESCs: Dual 70A ESCs have been replaced with upgraded dual Hobbywing 80A ESCs and an external 8A BEC for enhanced reliability and performance.
2. Upgraded servos: Elevator and rudder servos have been improved from 9g to 13g metal gear servos. Aileron and flap servos have been upgraded from 17g to 23g metal gear servos, delivering increased torque and responsiveness.
3. Precision landing gear: A redesigned nose gear assembly reduces play, improving tracking and directional stability during high-speed taxi and take-off.
4. Improved connectors: A ‘soft’ connector system increases the reliability of the wing quick-release mechanism.
5. Increased elevator travel: Provides greater control authority and precision during flight.
6. Durable tyres: Made from a more robust compound to increase wheel longevity during rough field operations.
7. Enhanced canopy latch: A longer latch pin significantly reduces the risk of accidental canopy release in flight.
8. Expanded battery bay: Now accommodates two 6S 3300mAh LiPo batteries, offering longer flight durations.
9. New paint scheme: A fresh and even more visually striking finish has been applied to the airframe.
10. New scale pilot: Adds further realism to the cockpit.
